Denmark on the 18th commissioned the Greensand CO2 capture and storage facility in the North Sea, beginning injection into a subsea reservoir. The first commercial phase is expected to store up to 400,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. INEOS said CO2 will be injected under the Nini West abandoned oilfield about 250 km off Denmark's west coast, roughly 1,800 m below the seabed. Capacity is planned to expand to 4–8 mln tonnes/year by 2030 as demand grows. CO2 will be sourced mainly from Danish biomethane plants, liquefied, trucked to a dedicated quay at Esbjerg and shipped offshore on the EU's first dedicated CO2 transport vessel.
