An ECB staff committee has urged management to clarify whether President Christine Lagarde will leave before her term ends, warning leadership uncertainty could undermine market confidence in ECB communication, prompt concern among staff and stakeholders, and complicate an orderly handover and strategic planning. The appeal underscores tensions between ECB staff and management over internal governance. Lagarde has said she will remain until 2027 but has declined to commit to the full eight-year term; her mandate runs until October 2027. Last week she told reporters there was "nothing to report" on her future plans.
