China's National Healthcare Security Administration said it established a drug-pricing and procurement credit-evaluation system in Aug 2020 and, in a three-year review, found some medical institutions had weak internal controls leading staff to take repeated, large commercial bribes from discredited suppliers. After a prior Shanghai stent-balloon bribery exposure and reports of a 5,000 yuan-per-stent kickback at Hebei Medical University Second Hospital, the NHSA said that hospital was involved in nine criminal judgments in H2 2025. Hospital staff accepted bribes 46 times; the largest single amount was 16.58 mln yuan, the longest-running scheme lasted 11 years, and the cumulative implicated amount reached 184 mln yuan.
